Four editions of the Tour de France Femmes, four visit to the final podium for both riders.
It seemed like wherever one went, the other was never far behind. Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) would surge, and Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez) would be hot on her heels. Vollering would try her luck, and Niewiadoma-Phinney would be right there.
Little separated the pair throughout the 2025 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift and when the race came to a close in Châtel on Sunday, the margin was just 27 seconds. Vollering second overall with Niewiadoma-Phinney third, both behind a rampaging Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Visma-Lease a Bike).
Impressively, both riders have now finished on the overall podium at all four editions of the Tour de France Femmes. Vollering has three second places and one win; Niewiadoma has three thirds and a win. Remarkable consistency from both riders.
In her press conference at the end of the Tour, Niewiadoma-Phinney was strikingly upbeat with her third place overall.
“I’m definitely super happy to finish on the podium,” she said. “Also knowing that every single edition we finish on the podium is something special. And yeah, we felt proud of that.”
Niewiadoma-Phinney said it was on stage 8, finishing atop the Col de la Madeleine, where she first realised that a second-straight Tour title was beyond her grasp. To that point she was just four seconds behind Ferrand-Prévot on GC and a single second ahead of Vollering.
