THE new lady captain at Ghyll Golf Club has chosen a charity for a year of fundraising.

Sue Hirons, who took up the role on January 13, has selected Colne Open Door as her charity of the year.

The centre supports individuals with food, counselling, and a warm, welcoming space.

Sue said: “They offer so much more than meets the eye and serve a very wide community that reaches out much further than Colne itself.

“Colne Open Door offer free hot meals for children Monday to Friday, a warm space with activities for those who are lonely, and food parcels for those in need.”

She added that the charity also provides counselling and in the past year supported 3,900 people experiencing crises related to domestic violence, housing, and homelessness.

Her goal is to raise more than £1,000 through the club.

She is also encouraging donations of non-perishable food items from members and visitors.
