Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has aired a worrying cliffhanger for Paddy Dingle, with the beloved character facing the prospect of jailtime. Despite the return of his wife Mandy, it proved to be a difficult day all round for Paddy.

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for the Dingle family, with Paddy and Dylan Penders attempting to cover for Bear Wolf after the latter murdered the villainous Ray Walters. In a shocking turn of events, Moira was also arrested after being framed.

Tuesday’s (17 February) episode of the ITV soap began with the police searching through his home following Bear’s arrest for the murder of Ray, with Dylan and Marlon supporting Paddy as he watched on.

Mandy, who had been visiting Ireland for the past few weeks, arrived at an inopportune moment as she saw her house being searched. Paddy didn’t have time to explain everything, so he left that job to Dylan and Marlon.

Paddy headed to the station to speak with his father, with Bear explaining that he decided to confess following a talk with a counsellor. He said that he wanted Paddy to be there for moral support, and to also help him with keeping the story straight.

As the interview progressed, the investigating officer began to gradually pick holes in Bear’s story, with the inconsistencies growing by the minute. As Paddy attempted to help his father, he was warned repeatedly about speaking on his father’s behalf.

Furthermore, she insinuated that Paddy was present at the scene of the crime, with Bear’s wording of the events making it increasingly obvious that he hadn’t acted alone. Bear maintained that he was alone, but the detective wasn’t buying it.

Paddy returned home to Mandy and worried that he had made things worse for Bear, and he soon had to explain the current situation to Marlon, Dylan and Rhona. The police paid a visit, and delivered some bad news to Paddy and Dylan.

The pair were asked to stop by the station the following morning, with the officer explaining that they wanted to get to the bottom of the various inconsistencies. With Paddy spiralling, he remarked that they would “go down” for the crime…
