“Following the huge success of last year’s Northamptonshire Day, winter ice rink and festive events, this initiative is another exciting step in our strategy to increase footfall and spend in the town centre, support local businesses, and build community pride.”
The council said the attraction would “complement existing market traders and enrich the visitor offer” and also offer opportunities for learning and engagement for local schools and families.
José Jiménez, chief executive of Planetarium Go!, said: “We chose Northampton for its central UK location and its impressive Market Square, which provides the perfect setting for this immersive attraction.”
Since the square underwent a £13.5m renovation and reopened in September 2024, it has been used for a number of events, including the ice rink that cost more than £300,000 to put on and brought in about £123,500 from ticket and bar sales.
