A comment made towards Joe Tate on Emmerdale on Tuesday night may have teased a dark twist is on the way.

While it was simply a metaphor used by Graham Foster to warn his son figure about his devious ways, could it be taken a bit more literally? We know that Joe has wronged so many characters at this point and is more than overdue a comeuppance.

Fans want a whodunnit or a downfall to play out to see Joe exposed and taken down for his cruel actions, including him blackmailing the Sugdens and framing Moira Dingle. Graham has made it clear since his return that he detests the man Joe has become.

Joe has blamed Graham’s fake death on this, unable to accept responsibility for his actions that have run on for the past couple of years. He even drugged his own brother and stole his uncle’s kidney.

Something Graham said on Tuesday though could be a massive hint of what’s ahead. Amid fans claiming Joe is no longer redeemable and must be punished one way or another, Graham made a comment that fans may take as a foreshadowing.

As Graham continued to judge Joe for his behaviour, Joe showed no remorse and kept putting Graham in his place. With Joe believing he was unstoppable, Graham warned him that “power is poison”.

He warned that if he continued it wouldn’t end well, and Joe didn’t seem to care. But what if Graham’s comment was a clue, like an easter egg giving away something coming up?

What if this was the biggest sign yet that Joe is doomed and set for the downfall he deserves? Could this be a sign that if Joe doesn’t change his ways, his actions will come back to haunt him and it won’t be good?

Perhaps it’s the soap dropping a hint that Joe could be killed off in a gruesome comeuppance. After all, the comment poison could be a nod to his father Chris Tate’s death.

Chris took his own life on the ITV soap 2003, while he tried to frame his wife Charity Dingle for his murder. Chris poisoned his own drink and caused his death.

Was Graham’s comment about poison simply a coincidence? Or could this be a massive hint that history may in some way repeat itself, with Joe being poisoned?

Poison or no poison, it certainly could tease a shock death for Joe after his bad decisions. The again we could be going overboard with this one, and it may have just been a metaphor.
