Halifax Panthers

Championship side Oldham have landed former Halifax Panthers man Brad Day following the club’s liquidation.

Day penned a deal with the Panthers last month and made three appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit. However, he became a free agent earlier this month when the Panthers entered liquidation following a long-running battle with HMRC.

Day hasn’t had to spend too long without a club, though, with the forward penning a deal with Oldham until the end of the Championship season. It’s been a difficult period for the 31-year-old, with Day entering the calendar year as Featherstone Rovers player before they were denied a spot in the Championship.

The back-rower started his career at Castleford Tigers, but he made just one appearance for the club before he joined Batley Bulldogs. He has had two spells with Featherstone as a player, while he also counts Newcastle Thunder as a former club, with his appearance tally totalling 210.

“It has been a funny old month,” Day said after joining the Roughyeds. “What happened at Halifax obviously wasn’t the best situation, but I am glad to get something sorted pretty quick.

“I am pretty sure I will get on well with these boys, and I can’t wait to get ripped in.

“I like to think I am hard working, I put all my effort out on the field and I run a pretty good line as well.

“I know a few of the lads so I already have an understanding of how we play and I am hoping to get on the scoreboard pretty quick.”

Oldham boss Alan Kilshaw said: “Brad is a real quality player. He has been in the Championship for a number of years now and played in some really good sides.

“He offers a bit of punch and strike on an edge and he can also play in the middle, so he is going to add depth to our already strong squad.”
