The City midfielder was involved in a full-sided training match involving the players who didn’t feature against Stockport last night.

Powell, who has been hampered by injuries in recent years, has not played since October after undergoing hamstring surgery.

But Graham Alexander today issued a positive update on his current situation.

“Nick’s training with us,” said the Bantams boss. “He played in the game this morning so he’s making good progress.

“Swanny (Will Swan) is a little bit later. He’s out on the grass but still with the medical team.

“He joined in a bit of possession at the start but that was only five minutes and then he went with the physios. I think it will be another couple of weeks with him.

“Nick’s been quite promising over the last week or so. He’s joined in a bit more training, then we allow him recover and expose him again to give him the best opportunity to be available at some point before the end of the season.”

With the schedule kicking up again, City are trying to ensure the whole squad are up to speed with those who played in last night’s win over Stockport.

Alexander said this afternoon: “There are a few tired bodies as you’d expect but nothing significant or out the ordinary for a game of that nature and playing twice in four days.

“Those boys have stayed inside because we’ve obviously got another game in a few days’ time. We want the recovery as quick as possible.

“The others just played an 11 v 11 against the youth team and worked exceptionally well. We’re trying to keep them as match fit as we possibly can because we’ve got a lot of games in quick succession.

“At the moment, the squad’s in good health.”
