Households are asked not to present their outdoor food waste caddies before 13 April, as collections will not begin until that week.
Councillor Adrian Lowe, Executive Member for Customer, Streetscene and Environment, said, “We’re pleased to be introducing weekly food waste collections for all households in Chorley. Food waste currently goes to landfill and creates harmful gases which are a danger to the environment.
“By recycling food waste, we can reduce the impact on the environment and instead create green energy. This change will help make Chorley cleaner, greener and more sustainable for everyone.”
Residents living in flats or properties with shared waste facilities will also be included in the new service. These households will receive a kitchen caddy and liners, and a communal outdoor food waste bin will be delivered and stored alongside existing shared bins.
More information can be found at chorley.gov.uk/foodwaste and the council can be contacted at 01257 515151 for more help and support. Residents can check their collection day at chorley.gov.uk/bincollectiondays
Each local council in Lancashire is bringing in food waste recycling, with Preston’s collections starting on April 20 and Wyre following South Ribble by starting on April 13. Ribble Valley and Fylde are set to begin later this year after being granted more time by the government.
