Leona Maguire produced a promising opening 67 to sit just two shots off the lead following the first round of the Honda LPGA Thailand.

Starting on the 10th, the Cavan golfer – in her first competitive round of 2026 – hit four birdies and a bogey going out, before further birdies at the first and ninth saw her move to five-under par, two shots off Thailand’s Chanettee Wannasaen and Japan’s Nasa Hataoka.

Maguire’s only blemish came at the par-three 16th in what was a drastic improvement on last year’s first round at the Siam Country Club when she carded a disappointing 74.

She is currently in a group of 10 players who are tied for sixth.

Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh made a scintillating start to her round as she moved to five-under par after just four holes, but she was unable to really build on that start as she finished on six-under par, a shot off the leaders.

The Honda LPGA Thailand is the first of three tournaments in Asia in consecutive weeks.
