ITV has announced a new reality show competition with what it calls a “spicy” twist.

Presented by Love Island star and TV presenter Olivia Attwood, The Heat is a series of 10 hour-long episodes coming to ITV2 and ITVX next year.

It will follow a group of 10 ambitious young chefs as they travel to Barcelona and work in a brand new restaurant in the Port Vell Marina, under the watchful eye of Jean-Christophe Novelli.

Rather than a simple elimination format, the competition will feature promotions and demotions as well as other “power plays” to keep the contestants on their toes and mix up the dynamic.

The show also promises that some people will be getting the boot along the way.

The Heat won’t just focus on the action in the kitchen, as the cameras will follow the hopefuls off-shift. It’s been teased that we will see staff on nights out, dates, and more.

“It is such an honour to host this brand-new format for ITV2 and ITVX, being at the helm of something this fresh and exciting is a total pinch-me moment!” Attwood stated.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to join this new exciting show and help spotlight the next generation of culinary talent,” Novelli added. “Known for my drive and intensity in the kitchen, I’ll be using my passion and unique teaching style to push these young chefs to dig deep, stay sharp, and prove they have what it takes to grow, evolve, and make their mark.

“It’s going to be a wild ride, and I know we’ll discover some true culinary stars along the way. I’m ready. Let’s do this. Allez, allez – bon appétit!”

Executive producer Dan Gray said: “Filming is under way in Barcelona, and it’s so exciting to see our ambitious young chefs enter the heat of the kitchen, as well as having the time of their lives in the city too. The series really is shaping up to be absolutely unmissable.”

Last year, Attwood fronted the ITV2 series Bad Boyfriends, which we at Digital Spy praised as “a fresh and authentic spin on the dating show format”.

The Heat will air on ITV2 and stream on ITVX next year.
