Charli XCX addresses backlash around afterparty with alleged Kremlin ties · News ⟋ RAThe Brat superstar said she wasn’t aware of the affiliations around the Berlin event.
Charli XCX has spoken out after criticism over her appearance at an afterparty following the Berlin International Film Festival premiere of her mockumentary The Moment.
The event, held in the German capital last Saturday, February 14th, was organised by Russian model and DJ Anastasia Shevtsova, AKA Petit. Shevtsova’s mother Zhanna is the founder of the Traditsiya Foundation, an organisation that works with the Kremlin-backed Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and runs projects in territories of Ukraine occupied, per United24 Media.
In a statement shared to Instagram Stories yesterday, February 19th, Charli XCX said neither she nor her team were aware of “any of the alleged affiliations around the party in Berlin,” and reiterated that she stands against actions by the Russian government in Ukraine and in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
This conflicted with United24 Media’s article, which claimed that both Charli’s team and the venue managers were “made aware of the organisers’ background and their reported family connections to structures operating in Russian-occupied territories.”
Shevtsova also posted a statement to Instagram yesterday, saying she’s not involved in politics, and that her family spans Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
