Huddersfield Giants’ Luke Robinson has addressed links to both Mark Percival and Tanguy Zenon with the head coach admitting he is keen to add to his squad amid further injuries.
The Giants have been linked with a move for both men, with Percival in the midst of a contract dispute at St Helens. The centre has been at St Helens for the entirety of his career to date, making 266 appearances and scoring 129 tries.
He’s out of contract at the end of the 2026 season, but the disagreement could see him leave the club earlier than perhaps expected with Huddersfield reportedly in frame.
Zenon, on the other hand, is a free agent after Halifax Panthers entered liquidation earlier this month. The Frenchman joined the Panthers from Catalans Dragons in November, but he made just four appearances for the club before they lost their battle with HMRC.
And, according to Love Rugby League, Huddersfield are the club set to offer the 23-year-old a lifeline in the game.
Robinson was asked about links to both men on Friday afternoon, with the head coach failing to rule out signing either man.
“He’s a really good player isn’t he,” the Giants boss said on Percival. “He’s an extremely good player.
“He just knows how to win, doesn’t he. A fabulous player. I’ve admired him for a very long time and at this moment in time, whenever good players come up and in positions we need, hopefully we as a club are in for them. It doesn’t mean we’re going to get them but hopefully our name is in the hat.
“He runs extremely hard, a really strong backfield carrier and he’s really potent with the ball and he causes his opposition centre loads of problems. He kicks goals and he’s a proven winner. I don’t think we’ll be the only club vying for his signature.”
On Zenon, he added: “It’s something we’ve explored and is ongoing. We were probably a little bit light in the outside backs and that’s something I’ve spoken about previously.
“When you lose two of your most experienced players then having a little bit of strength in depth is obviously something we’d love to have. It’s ongoing and fingers crossed we can bolster our squad in that area.”
Huddersfield Giants lose two key men to injury
The links come as injuries begin to build up for the luckless Huddersfield Giants once more. And, ahead of this weekend’s home opener against Wakefield Trinity, Robinson had more bad news to deliver, with Adam Swift and Liam Sutcliffe looking at lengthy lay-offs.
“We’re looking at about six weeks for Swift at this moment in time so he should be around the Challenge Cup game or a little bit after,” he said. “It will change depending on how he goes and if he hits his markers.
“Sutcliffe has received the news that he’s probably more 12 weeks out.
“Unfortunately the rugby gods have not been kind.”
