Customers have been flocking to an art gallery which opened today in a former bank.

Clarendon Fine Art opened its doors this morning (Friday, February 20) at the old Halifax branch in High Street, Stamford.

The business, founded by Helen Swaby 20 years ago, has more than 90 galleries across the UK and internationally, with Stamford being the firm’s first location in Lincolnshire.

Gallery manager, Julie Collins said: “At Clarendon, our mission has always been to make art feel welcoming and accessible to everyone.

“As we open our doors here in Stamford, we’re excited to become part of the local community and to inspire people through the art we share. Whether someone is a seasoned collector or completely new to the art world, we look forward to creating a space where everyone feels comfortable, curious and inspired to discover something new. We’re really looking forward to meeting you all in the coming weeks.”

Helen had previously told LincsOnline that said she wanted to create a more inspiring and enjoyable way to discover and buy art, offering it for everyone – from seasoned collectors to newcomers visiting a gallery for the first time.

Clarendon’s portfolio includes modern and contemporary art, featuring original paintings, limited editions and sculptures.

The Stamford gallery will introduce new artwork regularly throughout the season and will offer an ‘engaging programme of exhibitions and events’.

There will be on ‘open weekend’ for people to take a look around, but no date has yet been provided.

In 2024, the old HSBC on the corner of High Street and Red Lion Square became Gladwell and Patterson gallery.
