The teenage Cumbrian is due to make his pro debut at the ‘Next King of Scotland’ show in October.

Carrigan’s promoters, Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, have announced that the world amateur under-19 champion will be on the card in a welterweight bout.

Carrigan’s opponent has yet to be announced.

But the date will come as another landmark in the Border City Amateur Boxing Club star’s progress in the sport.

The Scottish show will be held at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow, on Saturday, October 4.

Carrigan will feature on a card which is headed by Nathaniel Collins’ European featherweight title contest against reigning champion Cristobal Lorente.

Promoter Warren said of the card: “I am absolutely thrilled and very excited by the young talent pool we have assembled north of the border, headed up by Drew Limond, Alex Arthur Jr and Reese Lynch, who will all feature on the night, alongside a future English star in John Joe Carrigan, who is a nine-time national champion and World Under-19 gold medallist.”

Carrigan’s debut was due to take place in September but that was put back.

The 18-year-old turned pro in May after winning a string of top amateur titles.

He won the world under-19 title at 70kg in Colorado last November, after also winning numerous European and national belts plus a series of Box Cup titles.

He is managed by the legendary American, Shelly Finkel, and he joined Warren’s stable in May.

Warren described Carrigan as a “stellar” amateur and added: “People are going to like him.” The Todhills teenager now trains at the Tenacity gym in the north east, where coach John Stubbs has described him as the best 18-year-old boxer he has ever seen.
