Work has begun on the new £20 million health centre in Weybridge. Once complete, the new building will provide a modern, integrated health hub.

The Phoenix Family Practice will relocate into the facility, which will also house maternity services, same day urgent care, diagnostics, and health and wellbeing support.

A flexible first floor space will enable the NHS to adapt services over time in response to changing local demand.

Dr Graeme Wilding – GP Partner from The Phoenix Family Practice said: “Over the past eight years, despite limited space and facilities, our staff at the Phoenix Family Practice has continued to provide safe, compassionate and professional care.

“Reaching this stage is a significant milestone, and we’re delighted to see the new building finally underway. The new facility will allow us to expand our services, offer a more welcoming environment for patients and give us the stability we need for the future.”

The project has been deemed one of the region’s most significant recent investments in primary and community healthcare infrastructure.

“This new health centre is leading the way as a one-stop shop bringing vital services together under one roof, right on people’s doorsteps – whether it’s a GP, maternity care, urgent care or wellbeing support.

“For local people in Weybridge, this means fewer journeys, shorter waits and more coordinated support closer to home. The centre will make care simpler, faster and more convenient, with earlier diagnosis, better prevention and a more seamless patient experience.”

The health centre will be built on the site of the former Weybridge Hospital site, which was significantly damaged by a fire on July, 11, 2017. The damage was so extensive the building was eventually demolished.

Vicky Stobbart, Director of Commissioning and Delivery for NHS Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board, said: “This is a significant milestone for the project.

“The start of construction work represents years of planning and extended collaboration, where we have worked together to design a brand-new facility that will help improve the health and wellbeing of local people for generations to come.”

The health facility at Weybridge is supporting the NHS 10-Year Health Plan’s vision to deliver a neighbourhood health service.
