In January, Reading Council hit a record-high collection total of 708 tonnes of food waste, the highest monthly figure since the launch of the scheme in 2021.
The increase follows a borough-wide campaign launched in mid-November to encourage greater participation.
Karen Rowland, lead councillor for environmental services and community safety, said: “We are delighted with these results and thrilled the momentum from our food recycling campaign is being maintained.
“I’d like to say a huge thanks to all the residents who have contributed to this success.”
The campaign led to a 12 per cent rise in food waste collected in January, contributing to a 15 per cent year-on-year increase when combined with December’s figures.
The council said the results reflect lasting behavioural change among residents, who have taken on board reminders to separate food waste from general rubbish.
Food waste recycling helps reduce methane emissions by keeping food out of landfill.
