The talented young midfielder was with St Mirren at the time, but higher-ups at Celtic opposed the decision.
Manager at the time, Ange Postecoglou, encouraged O’Dea to trust his instincts, stating he would support him against the board.
O’Dea said on Open Goal: “I wanted to sign a player that no one else did.
“And [Ange] kept saying to me: ‘If you want to do it, do it, and I’ll back you.’
“But it was the board, like, and everything. You’re saying [you] want me to go in with the board!
“[It was] the boy Dylan Reid. He ended up going down to [Crystal Palace].
“It became a bit of a saga and all. “[Ange] kept baiting me to go in and take on the club.
“‘Go on and do it, and I’ll back you!’… [I] never done it.”
Ultimately, the transfer attempt was dropped and Reid moved on to sign for Crystal Palace, a club he still plays for.
