McCoist lets rip
Furious Ally McCoist has demanded VAR is binned from the Scottish Premiership as he let rip at those who operate it after an “embarrassing” weekend in Scottish football.
The Rangers icon was apoplectic as he condemned the decision not to send off Cammy Kerr for wiping out Mikey Moore and denying a goalscoring opportunity after it was adjudged to have taken place outside the box.
And he was also spitting feathers as the Ibrox icon also branded the call to send off Auston Trusty as a “terrible decision”. Martin O’Neill claimed referee Matthew MacDermid was set to give Trusty a warning before the VAR intervened.
McCoist was also fizzing with Richard King’s red card in Motherwell’s rout of St Mirren after Callum Slattery hit the deck despite minimal contact.
The 62-year-old was incandescent with rage and used a weekend to forget to launch an appeal to free Scottish football of video replay. VAR is in place with clubs currently in favour but acrimony is rising in the wake of a raft of contentious decisions.
He stated: “The first thing you would say is the Hibs player [Jamie McGrath’] doesn’t cover himself in glory, but come on guys, it is a terrible, terrible decision. Nobody come and and tell me about violent conduct, because it’s not. The guy is holding him and he puts his hand down to get rid of him.
“See the people who are doing our VAR, they are inept, they are just not good. We need to get rid of it, we have to get rid of VAR. because they are embarrassing themselves.
“The decision at Livingston in the last minute, is absolutely outrageous.”
McCoist then went off on one over the decision which denied Moore the chance to win the game for Rangers: “Embarrassing, absolutely embarrassing.
“The officiating at the weekend in Scotland was absolutely horrendous. We brought VAR into help them. It’s actually showing them up. If a referee makes a mistake then fair enough, but if someone is sitting watching it seven, eight, nine times and still gets it wrong, what chance have we got?”
