Martin Lewis clashes with Badenoch over student loans
Good Morning Britain descended into chaos as presenter Martin Lewis interrupted an interview with Kemi Badenoch.
Hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were interviewing the Leader of the Conservative Party on Monday’s instalment of the ITV show (February 23) and as they discussed student loans, Money Saving Expert star Martin walked in to share his thoughts.
The presenters had introduced the conversation with Kemi, with Ed explaining: “You want to cut the interest rate on student loans, and you’re going to pay for it by saying to 100,000 people who might be applying for what you call low value rip-off degrees, that they shouldn’t go to university, and the money you save from stopping them to go to university, you will then use to cut interest rates on loans.”
As Kemi started the lay out her viewpoint, Susanna announced: “Martin Lewis is coming to the studio!”

The presenter then walked in and told the politician: “If you want to help the middle earning students, the most important thing is the repayment threshold should have been increased.”
The pair then debated the issue for a few minutes, as Ed and Susanna looked on.
Kemi insisted she would be happy to discuss the issue with Martin, and as he started to leave, Susanna said: “I like the idea of you two now going and having a meeting to discuss proposals. Kemi Badenoch, thank you very much indeed for coming into the studio.
“And Martin, thank you very much indeed.”
“I’ve never had someone interrupt the interview from behind so that was very exciting,” admitted Kemi.
“You got the Martin Lewis ambush!” agreed Susanna.
“I did,” said Kemi, joking that she was going to “do it back”.

The incident came up again as the conversation ended, as Susanna thanked Kemi “for dealing with all of those issues” and Ed chimed in to call it an “unorthodox” interview.
“I’m going to be bombing,” Kemi told them. “I’m going to be bombing your interviews.”
Laughing, Susanna replied: “We’re about to talk to Martin Lewis. You can just stand in his eyeline and shout!”
Viewers were quick to comment on the interview, with several posting messages on X, formerly Twitter, saying that Kemi was “ambushed”.
“Woah… Kemi is having a nightmare on @GMB this morning,” said one, as another said the Opposition leader handled the situation with “such grace”. Someone else commented: “Martin Lewis coordinated ambush during that ‘interview’. You don’t have to be Kemi Badenoch’s biggest fan, but that was uncalled for.”
