There’s 60,000 new bins being delivered and it will take around six to seven weeks for every household to receive one. They are being delivered alongside the usual bin collections taking place.

As well as the bins each home will receive a guide on how to use the new caddy as well as a supply of liners.

A spokesperson for the city council said: “We will start the delivery of your food waste caddies. This will take several weeks to deliver to all households so don’t panic if you don’t get yours for a while. On receiving them, please do not recycle your food waste as collections start from 20 April.”

The weekly food waste collections will take place alongside other bin collections – which remain fortnightly for household waste and general recycling. There is no charge for the food waste recycling collections.

Anyone living in a communal flat or have communal waste arrangements such as a large accommodation block will not receive a food waste bin until later this year as details are still being confirmed for how food waste collections will work for these households. Full details of the food waste scheme are on a dedicated page on the city council’s website.

Every household in Lancashire is to see the new food waste collections start this year – as it’s a scheme coming in from the government.

South Ribble, Wyre and Chorley have confirmed their arrangements, while Ribble Valley and Fylde have been granted more time to arrange their food waste schemes.
