While March is the month of the Oscars, there are plenty of great films coming out across the month, some of which will be hoping for Academy recognition next year.
From Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale in a new adaptation of Frankenstein to a Pixar film and the long-awaited Peaky Blinders movie and Stephen Graham in the thriller The Good Boy, there’s plenty to look forward to.

The Bride!
We have another adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein, arriving just months after Guillermo del Toro’s version which starred Jacob Elordi as the monster. But don’t worry — this is different. Directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and set in 1930s Chicago, this film stars Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster who asks Dr Euphronious (Annette Bening) to create a bride for him by reviving a dead young woman (Jessie Buckley). This is a Bonnie and Clyde twist on the classic gothic horror.

War Machine
Alan Ritchson, best known for playing the lead in the TV series Reacher, heads this sci-fi film about a team of US Army Rangers who stumble across an unknown danger. “Whatever that thing is, it’s hunting us and it won’t stop,” Ritchson says in the trailer. The supporting cast includes Dennis Quaid, Stephan James and Jai Courtney. You can expect action and thrills.

Hoppers
It’s a Pixar film and it’s not a spin-off or a sequel but it does have a plot similar to Avatar. The premise is that scientists have discovered a way to move human consciousness into robotic animals. One day, Mabel Tanaka uses the technology to “hop” into the animal world. Nothing could go wrong, right?

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
It’s time to return to Birmingham and the Shelby family for a feature-length movie from the screenwriter Steven Knight. After the chaos of the Second World War, Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) returns from self-imposed exile to a bombed Birmingham and becomes involved in secret missions. Returning cast members include Sophie Rundle, Stephen Graham and Packy Lee, while new additions include Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth.

Reminders of Him
Valentine’s Day is behind us but there’s always time for a romantic film. so how about this adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2022 novel of the same name? Maika Monroe stars as a mother who has been released from prison and is fighting for custody of her daughter — then a bar owner enters her life and offers her compassion. It might not win any Oscars next year but it could be a solid choice for a Saturday night viewing.

How To Make A Killing
How far would you go to claim an inheritance? In this black comedy, loosely inspired by Robert Hamer’s 1949 film Kind Hearts and Coronets, Glen Powell plays Becket Redfellow, an outcast from his wealthy family. He decides to do anything to ensure his inheritance, including killing them off one by one. Well, that’s one way to claim £28 billion.

One Last Deal
Danny Dyer stars in Brendan Muldowney’s thriller as a veteran sports agent trying to secure a big deal for his main client. If he doesn’t get it over the line their careers could be in trouble. Expect fireworks and a lot of swearing.

Project Hail Mary
Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) is stuck in space with no memory as to why he’s there. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie), this adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2021 novel Project Hail Mary centres on Grace’s attempt to find out what happened — with a little help from an alien named Rocky.

The Good Boy
Stephen Graham stars in this twisted thriller about a 19-year-old boy who enjoys partying, drugs and violence. But one night, when he is out enjoying himself, he is kidnapped by an unknown figure (Graham). He is chained in the basement of a suburban house and forced to comply with his kidnapper’s wishes as they try to rehabilitate him. Andrea Riseborough also stars.

The Magic Faraway Tree
The screenwriter Simon Farnaby (Paddington 2) pens the script for this adaptation of Enid Blyton’s book series The Magic Faraway Tree. Claire Foy and Andrew Garfield play parents who relocate to the countryside and there, their children discover a magical tree with eccentric residents. The supporting cast includes Nicola Coughlan and Rebecca Ferguson.
