Valeriy Zaluzhny spoke in the Parliament of Great Britain, where he spoke about the participation of Ukrainians in World War II. He posted on his page on Facebook.
“Russia continues to use this war for propaganda and to stoke hostility against Ukrainians. Therefore the fight for truth directly affects the war that is ongoing today against Ukraine.”
“For Putin, World War II is the main unifying factor, and the myth of the ‘great victory’ is a kind of religion that justifies killings. Ukraine’s reinterpretation of the war as a tragedy caused by fascist and communist regimes has presented Moscow with a challenge. And the aggression against Ukraine is presented as the ‘continuation of the fight against Nazism’, the so-called ‘denazification’.”
“Although, in reality, the Ukrainian contribution to the defeat of the Nazis was colossal. The communist regime was never condemned after 1945, and the Yalta system cemented the division of Europe. Thus the West bought stability at the price of the lack of freedom in Central and Eastern Europe. And this created space for the revival of Russian imperialism, which today tries to restore the logic of Yalta and again divide Europe into spheres of influence.”
“The world must not repeat the mistakes of World War II. A compromise with the aggressor without its defeat would mean only a postponed war. Supporting Ukraine is not only support for a state that is defending itself. It is a defense of the principles of international law and democracy in the world.”
