Hull FC

Super League great Leon Pryce has sent a supportive message to his son Will following the Hull FC full-back’s season ending injury.

The Black and Whites star ruptured his ACL on Saturday evening as John Cartwright’s side fell to defeat against Wigan Warriors at the Brick Community Stadium. The incident came late in the game, with Pryce landing awkwardly in a tackle and the bad news was confirmed by FC on Monday.

It was a blow for both the player and the club, with the 23-year-old set to have surgery in the coming weeks before his long and arduous rehabilitation period. And, to make things more frustrating for Pryce, who joined Hull from Newcastle Knights in March last year, his first season in East Yorkshire was cut short through injury, too.

However, he’ll have his sights set on returning bigger and better in 2027 and his father, a former Hull player himself, is backing him to do just that.

“It’s been a tough few days,” Leon wrote on Instagram. “As a parent sat in the stands watching your son involved in a tackle you hope you would never see is gut wrenching. Unfortunately that’s sport. Season done before it got going.

“One thing that I know you couldn’t have been more prepared, professional or dedicated to giving everything for the team. It’s not the end of the world but one thing I know from playing is at this time it feels like it.

“As a family we will have your back, & you’ll be back bigger, stronger & faster I’m 100% sure of it. I know you’ll do everything in your power to make sure of it.

“Love you son.”

Pryce has made 12 appearances for Hull FC so far in his career, with three tries coming along the way.
