Much like humans and other animals, baby Otters get excited to try new foods, and this adorable pup is no exception!

In an adorable TikTok, Captain Nemo, the baby Otter, got the chance to try solid food for the first time, and his mom caught the big moment on video. While he approached the small piece of fish cautiously at first, his little squeaks made it obvious he enjoyed it.

While it looked like Captain Nemo may not have many teeth, he happily chewed on the piece of fish, and he made little munching noises to show just how much he loved it. His mom also confirmed in the video’s caption that it was Captain Nemo’s “First time trying real food.”

“It’s safe to say he loves it,” she continued in the caption and also gushed about how quickly “Captain Nemo is growing up.”

The internet fell in love with Captain Nemo and his adorable squeaks, with some users obsessed with his “excited nom” sounds as he ate. Other users joked that they’ve also made similar sounds while also eating their favorite foods, with one user commenting, “I make the same noises with chicken wings, little buddy.”

“So that’s where they get the squeaks in squeaky toys,” another user even joked in the comments.

Fun facts about baby Otters

Baby Otters may have some teeth when they’re born; it just depends on their species. According to A-Z Animals, baby River Otters are typically born without teeth, which typically begin to grow in at around three weeks.

On the other hand, baby Sea Otters are born with six to ten teeth, and their permanent teeth will grow in by the time they’re nine months old. In the wild, they typically rely on their mother’s milk before they begin eating solid food, such as small fish.

When baby Otters are born, they need constant attention from their mothers for the first six months of their life as they develop their survival skills, according to the Department of the Interior.

In fact, baby Sea Otters are born with dense fur, which leaves them unable to dive underwater. This allows their mothers to “leave their pups safely floating on the water’s surface while they forage for food.”
