Mal Roper’s attacker may have been exposed on Coronation Street after Bernie Winter’s arrest.
Two new theories could rule out Bernie as the culprit with someone else thought to be behind it. The second theory suggests there was no attack, and something else happened to Mal.
On Thursday, it emerged that Mal had been found unconscious with serious head injuries. Kit Green went to the hospital to find out what condition the victim was in, a day on from his mother Bernie sharing her horror ordeal at the hands of obsessive Mal.
Viewers have seen Mal harassing Bernie, thinking they belong together. Things turned sinister when he wouldn’t take no for an answer, before she threatened to kill him if he did not stay away.

Someone heard her threat though and after he was found seemingly attacked, Bernie became prime suspect and was arrested. But fans believe either someone else was to blame, or it was all Mal.
One theory is that Mal hurt himself to frame Bernie in a sinister plot, as others wondered if a health incident caused him to fall and become injured. Another theory is that Jodie Ramsey, who is also targeting Bernie, could be behind the attack for some reason.
Taking to social media one fan said: “It’s probably a heart attack and he got injured when he fell,” as another fan said: “Himself did it.” A third fan agreed: “I think he did it himself,” while a fourth fan backed this saying: “I wouldn’t put it past Mal himself.”

Then came the Jodie theories, with one writing: “It was Jodie that attacked Mal not Kit or Bernie.” Another agreed: “Jodie attacked Mal,” as a further post read: “Probably Jodie.”
The theory continued to be shared with one fan saying: “I think Jodie,” as another said: “I thought Jodie.” It comes as fans believed they had worked out why Jodie was targeting Bernie. Viewers learned this week that she was the one who broke into Bernie’s home, and destroyed her wedding photo.
It seems to be linked to a revenge plan after Bernie snapped at her in the café prior to the incident. But fans are convinced there has to be more to it than that, with Jodie seemingly being out to get her.
One fan said: “She could be Bernie’s granddaughter.” Another theorised: “Probably secret daughter,” as a third said: “I bet Jodie is Bernie’s daughter.”

A fourth fan commented: “Maybe she’s another child of Bernie who she gave up for adoption.” A further theory said: “What if … Jodie is Kit’s twin sister? But Bernie doesn’t remember giving birth to twins.”
Another theory said: “So Jodie is trying to cause problems between Roy and Bernie making her paranoid and makes mistakes. Jodie gets Bernie fired by Roy. She’ll be after her job as once Shona comes back there won’t be room for her.”
A fan also said: “I think it was said that Shona and Jodie had the same dad, different mums, so Bernie being Jodie’s mum is possible,” while another wrote: “Could Bernie be Jodie’s mum?”
