Denmark manager Brian Riemer hopes to have Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu back fit for the World Cup qualification play-offs in March.

Patrick Dorgu sustained a hamstring injury on January 25 during Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.

The Denmark international showed signs of improvement in the weeks leading up to his injury setback, scoring United’s second goal in the win over Arsenal, but he has not been seen since.

Initial estimates suggested a 10-week lay-off with a return in April, although Michael Carrick has never given a specific return date when asked by the press.

The sooner Dorgu returns, the better.

Dorgu will give Michael Carrick an additional option, not just at left back but also on the left wing, as he proved before his injury.

Denmark boss Brian Riemer has spoken to Viaplay about Dorgu’s availability ahead of the World Cup play-offs next month.

Initially, it looked like Dorgu would miss Denmark’s clash against North Macedonia on March 26 in the semi-final of the play-offs as well as a potential final against either Czechia or the Republic of Ireland.

But we’ve now learned that Riemer is not ruling Dorgu out of those games, even though he has yet to return to action for United.

“Right now, he is reported injured by Manchester United, and he is until April, Riemer said, as quoted by Tipsbladet.

“I know that Patrick has a dream of being ready. I think his biggest motivation right now, when he is running around in that training room, is that he wants to battle everyone and then be ready for that match.

“I’ll only help him keep that dream alive as long as the opportunity exists.”

Denmark may have missed out on an automatic qualification spot during their qualification campaign, but Dorgu used those matches to stake a claim for a place in the line-up.

Reimer’s comments suggest the Denmark boss is eager to get the left back/winger hybrid into his team for their next round of crucial fixtures.

Dorgu made five appearances for Denmark during their World Cup qualification campaign to date, scoring two goals.

The 21-year-old faces a race against time to make it back for the semi-final against North Macedonia.
