Sky News Australia was halted to give an update on the health of Prince Edward, after the royal was forced to pull out of an event earlier this week due to illness. Edward was supposed to attend an awards ceremony alongside his brother King Charles, but could not appear due to a health issue, which saw him cancel his appearance at the last minute.

On Sky, presenter Gabriella Power said: “Well, King Charles’ brother Prince Edward was supposed to be joining King Charles for a major event, but he was forced to pull out at the last minute. This comes just days after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, so Prince Edward was expected to join his family at an awards ceremony at St. James Palace in London, but was unexpectedly absent after being struck down with a health issue.”

Turning to royal commentator Esther Krakue, Gabriella asked: “Esther, what are your thoughts around this?

“Because royal experts say that this really would have been comforting, particularly for King Charles, to have more of his family around him during this hugely challenging time.”

Esther responded: “I think what this has laid bare is how thin the royals on the ground are. There are very few of them.

She continued: “We know that Prince Edward’s wife has been in Somalia with her charity causes there, drawing attention to the rights of women and girls, particularly those who face sexual violence, so she’s busy all over the world.

“They’ve been doing tours to Canada and all over the world. Really it’s not surprising that with an alleged cold, something as simple as a cold, he had to be taken out.

“I think it’s more to do with exhaustion and just the fact that the few members of the royal family that are working are kind of pushed to the limit.”
