Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (27 February), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Coronation Street has confirmed George Shuttleworth’s worst fears – his kind-hearted client Mrs Ripley has passed away on his premises. Will George’s business survive this new threat to its reputation?
The Weatherfield funeral parlour was already embroiled in scandal after vengeful newcomer Annie falsely accused George of scamming her late mum out of £10,000. With the separate Mrs Ripley incident now making matters worse, George’s stress levels are about to go through the roof.
Friday’s episode confirms the pensioner’s fate after she collapsed during a visit to Shuttleworth’s. We last saw George calling an ambulance for his elderly customer, still hoping that she could be saved. Sadly, it just wasn’t to be…
As George reflects on the sad turn of events and receives moral support from Christina, Glenda and Todd, he admits that he feels “terrible” over what happened.

Todd points out that it was just her time to go, but George frets: “Was it, though? We got her pretty worked up in her final days.”
Christina also chimes in: “I suppose there’s a tiny chance that people might think this is more than a coincidence.”
The conflab quickly escalates into a debate over whether people would genuinely believe George is “bumping off widows for their inheritance”. Struggling with the absurdity of it all, the local undertaker is left in despair that this is even a talking point.
Later, further chaos follows as a man arrives at the undertakers and introduces himself as Mrs Ripley’s son Damien.

Damien is grateful that George will be overseeing his mother’s funeral, but he soon starts to regret his choice when Annie approaches and warns that Shuttleworth’s are not to be trusted. Is Annie’s vendetta about to turn even nastier?
Mrs Ripley is the second Corrie character to be killed off this year, although she’d only appeared in a couple of episodes.
The first was regular character Billy Mayhew, who lost his life at the start of the year in the dramatic Corriedale crossover special.
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
