Scott King, 56, was commissioned to install murals at the train station in a bid to make the area more visually pleasing.

He is a well-known street artist who goes by the name Aroma One.

Starting on the mural this week, the artwork took two days to complete and features a wonderful painting of a 156 Super Sprinter train.

Mr King said: “The train I painted was chosen by the council.

“I picked the 156 Sprinter because they were the boat trains in the 1980s before the electric went in.

“I picked a black and white theme as I thought it would be more appropriate for the lovely old building it is painted on.”

Mr King will be adding more murals to decorate the station over the coming weeks.

He said: “I’m in the middle of a commission at the station.

“There is another archway to the right hand side where I will be painting a train guard in an 80s uniform.

“It will be dedicated to my dad who used to wear that uniform and worked on the sprinter trains.”

The murals were commissioned by Community Rail.

Ivan Henderson, tourism boss for Tendring Council and part of the Harwich Tourism Group, said the mural is great for bringing people into the area.

Mr Henderson said: “This mural is really lovely and adding to what we are trying to do in Dovercourt and Harwich.

“It is part of our overall regeneration of Dovercourt and the High Street to make sure people realise Dovercourt is where all the shops are.

“This is part of us making a connection between the seafront and town centre to make it easier to promote the High Street as a visitor destination.”
