March is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting month for television, with a number of brilliant new dramas set to premiere – including Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington’s twisty new thriller Imperfect Women, as well as a crime drama led by Nicole Kidman.

The long wait will also be over for fans of a good medical drama, as award-winning drama The Pitt finally lands a UK release date with the launch of HBO Max. Plus, there’s appointment TV on the BBC and ITV with some new prime time Sunday-night viewing. So read on, and set those reminders.

ITV’s brand-new psychological drama, starring Eve Myles (Broadchurch) and David Morrissey (Sherwood), will centre on a local headmaster of a private school, who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance. When his path crosses with gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, he may well have met his match…

The drama, written by George Kay (whose past TV credits include Lupin and Netflix’s Criminal: UK), has been described as “a compulsive game of cat and mouse” – with so much more explored beyond the show’s driving mystery.

Yes, March will see the return of the long-awaited BBC thriller – once again starring Holliday Grainger as Rachel Carey, only this time she’s had a promotion, and will be working hard to win back the public’s trust in surveillance technology.

Created and written by the BAFTA award-winning Ben Chanan, the impressive cast also includes Paapa Essiedu (Gangs of London), Indira Varma (Doctor Who), Ben Miles (The Crown) and Ginny Holder (Death in Paradise). Joining them for season three are Killian Scott (Dublin Murders), Joe Dempsie (Get Millie Black), and Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), among others.

Seduction and obsession collide in this new limited series, according to Netflix. Based on the acclaimed novel by Julia May Jonas, Rachel Weisz (Dead Ringers) and Leo Woodall (One Day, The White Lotus) star in this passionate series, centring on a professor and her magnetic new colleague.

The synopsis details how the show is “brimming with forbidden desires, razor-sharp wit, and charismatic, unpredictable characters”.

Hollywood icon Nicole Kidman stars as the famous literary character Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner determined to unmask a serial killer.

Based on the bestselling book series from author Patricia Cornwell, the story has been adapted for the screen by Emmy-nominated writer Liz Sarnoff (Lost) and the exciting starry cast also features Jamie Lee Curtis (The Bear) and Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire).

This one certainly promises to be packed with twists. Adapted from the book by Araminta Hall, described as a “must-read novel of the year” on Amazon, Imperfect Women introduces three close friends – until one of them winds up dead, shattering everything.

It stars The Handmaid’s Tale’s Elisabeth Moss and Scandal’s Kerry Washington, who also executive produce, as well as Kate Mara (Black Mirror) and Leslie Odom Jr (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery).

Camila Morrone (The Night Manager, Daisy Jones and The Six) leads this exciting new horror series, based around a doomed wedding. As the title and synopsis suggest, Rachel (Morrone) can’t shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen, as her “ill-fated nuptials” with fiancé Nicky creeps closer.

Created by Haley Z Boston, and with Stranger Things’ Hilary Leavitt, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer on board to executive produce, this is one to keep an eye on.

Season one will launch with HBO Max on Thursday, 26 March

That’s right, the critically-acclaimed and widely-applauded medical drama – which has already released two seasons in the US, and has a third on the way – will finally be available to stream in the UK.

Starring ER’s Noah Wyle as Dr Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch, The Pitt is set in an emergency department, with each episode unfolding over one 15-hour shift.

Tobias Santelmann will bring detective Harry Hole, a character made famous in Jo Nesbø’s (who Netflix describe as “one of the greatest storytellers in crime fiction”) book series, to life in this crime series inspired by the novels.

Hole is described as “a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons”, and the drama will see him go head-to-head with his long-time adversary, detective Tom Waaler.

This new comedy series, written by and starring Riz Ahmed, follows struggling actor Shah Latif as he’s given one last shot at his dream, in the form of a big audition.

The six-part series is set to span across four days of Latif’s life, as things get increasingly out of control. Guz Khan (Man Like Mobeen) and Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You) also star.

A fresh take on Sherlock Holmes, this series is something of an origin story – set in 1870s’ Oxford – and will focus on the younger years of the famous detective (here, played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin).

From Guy Ritchie, who of course was also behind the movies fronted by Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, it’s fair to say that this will be an exciting one for fans.

The popular British police drama, which stars Sharon D Clarke (Showtrial, Mr Loverman) as the titular DCI Ellis, will be back for its second season this month.

Together with her police partner DS Chet Harper (Andrew Gower), the pair will once again be set to solve various crimes for police stations in rural areas.
