1000-lb Sisters star Tammy Slaton has revealed she suffered a mental breakdown after being on the wrong dosage of medication for her depression.
The 39-year-old reality star shared details of her personal mental health struggles in the latest episode of the TLC show.
On the program, Slaton claimed that her dramatic 500-lb weight loss was in part to blame because her dosage had not been lowered since she reached a smaller size.
Speaking in her confessional, she said: ‘I went to the doctors. They did a bunch of blood work and my medication, it was such a high dose for my bigger body and now that I’m not so big, it was too high for my body size.’
‘It just kind of put me in, I guess, a manic depression state and it was making me have a mental breakdown.
‘​​So, they took me off five prescriptions that I didn’t need anymore, and then they lowered the rest of them.’
According to the Mayo Clinic, bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings.Â
These include emotional highs, also known as mania or hypomania, and lows, also known as depression.Â

Slaton added that she’s still trying to get used to her new medication and doesn’t feel like herself just yet.
The television personality sought professional help after her then-girlfriend Andrea Dalton said she would end their relationship over her behavior.
Sharing details about the state of her mental health, Slaton said that she has been ‘very stressed out’ in recent months.
‘Overwhelmed and just every emotion possible and when I was getting angry or mad,’ she continued.
‘I would black out and I would say things. It was me, but it wasn’t me. I don’t know how else to explain it.’
Social media users expressed their relief that Slaton has acted and is making steps to see a therapist.
‘Glad to know she’s taking all the advice about therapies and getting the physical side looked at as well,’ one commented on TLC’s official Instagram page.
‘That happened to me it was thyroid meds,’ said another.

Slaton and her sister Amy shot to fame in 2020 when 1000-lb Sisters premiered on the network, charting their weight loss journey.
She has been incredibly candid about her journey and back in April 2025, she proudly revealed she was down ‘500 pounds.’
‘When I was at my heaviest, I was 700-plus pounds,’ she said on the TLC series.
‘Right now, I’m weighing in at 238.’Â
Slaton underwent bariatric surgery in late 2022, followed by skin removal procedures.
