Patients are urgently calling for a multi-storey car park at a Birmingham hospital amid parking issues so ‘severe’ some are ‘missing appointments.’
Some frustrated patients have even reportedly ‘abandoned’ their cars in any space to ensure they make it on time to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield.
One said she spent ‘over an hour’ trying to find a parking spot. It led to her missing critical scans and appointments for an ongoing problem.

She has since started a change.org petition, calling for a multi-storey car park to be built at the hospital. Parking conditions wre also ‘hazardous’ as there were large potholes in the car parks, she said.
The patient, who would not be named, said: “Every visit to Good Hope becomes a stressful ordeal due to the severe parking issues.
“As a frequent patient, I’ve experienced first hand the impact this has on health and wellbeing. I, like many others, have missed critical scans and appointments simply because it took us over an hour just to find a parking spot.
“For some, the frustration becomes too overwhelming, and they abandon their visits altogether.
“The current parking conditions are not just inconvenient—they’re hazardous. Large potholes are widespread, causing a risk to vehicles and pedestrians alike. With desperate drivers resorting to abandoning their cars in any available space, the situation is chaotic and unsafe.”
It was understood a planning application was set to be lodged for a new car park this year, with the possibility of work starting in 2027.

The patient added: “Every year, Good Hope applies for a permit to construct a multi-storey car park, and every year, residents block the proposal.
“This car park would not be any larger than existing structures on hospital grounds, and with added greenery, it could seamlessly blend into the environment, enhancing rather than detracting from the community’s aesthetic.
“Building a multi-storey car park at Good Hope Hospital is a necessary and practical solution to an ongoing problem affecting countless patients and their families. It would provide sufficient parking facilities, reduce congestion, and ensure that healthcare needs are met promptly and safely.
“We need to prioritize the health and convenience of patients over bureaucratic hurdles. It’s time for change. I urge the local council and community to come together to support the construction of a multi-storey car park for Good Hope Hospital.”
A spokesperson for Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham, said: “We welcome the support and involvement of our local community – we are already developing early-stage plans for a multi-storey car park on the Good Hope site, working closely with our local councillors.
“As our plans progress, we would appreciate the continued support of our local community as we try to improve the hospital site for patients, visitors and colleagues.”
