Over the weekend, the chandeliers at L’Olympia glittered like a thousand watchful eyes as the crowd gathered for the 51st César Film Awards. Cameras flashed. Stylists fluttered. And then Jim Carrey arrived – or did he?
The actor stepped onto the red carpet with an easy confidence and that familiar, animated grin. He waved to photographers, paused for a few playful expressions, and gave a small bow that felt distinctly on-brand. The crowd reacted instantly, and of course, social media lit up within minutes.
But with speculation already swirling about subtle changes in his appearance over the past few years, the excitement quickly shifted into scrutiny – fans replaying clips and questioning whether what they were seeing was really him at all.

And then came the post that sent fans into an absolute meltdown.
SFX makeup artist, Alexis Stone, shared a picture of Jim from the night with a caption that reads: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.” It’s not an explicit confession that he dressed up as Jim using prosthetics, but given that his entire brand revolves around transformative makeovers – and that he has previously appeared disguised as other major celebrities – he almost had us fooled.
However, while Jim Carrey himself has not addressed the situation, his publicist has since spoken to TMZ and confirmed it very much was the actor at the awards show. Their report says: The actor’s longtime publicist, Marleah Leslie said: “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
But that didn’t stop thousands of people commenting on Alexis’ post, with Megan Fox writing, “I can’t handle any more stress right now i need to know if this is real” and others leaving their opinions in the comments section.
“This looks way too good to be true😭😭😭””Bro what?!?!?””NO WAY””PROVE IT FRIEND (where’s the video proof lol lol lol)””That’s the craziest thing ever done wow 😂””Will the real Jim Carey please stand up…””I knew it! Jim was trolling us with his incredible acting skills and wearing prosthetics. I don’t think that Alex was impersonating him. It’s just him in makeup :)”

In response to the rumours, Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the Cesar Awards, also told Variety it was “non-issue”, insisting the visit had “been planned since this summer. From the outset, [Carrey] was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.
“He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”
Good one, Alexis! You almost had us there.
