This season of Bridgerton featured one of the most emotional moments of the four series we’ve seen so far, when Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) came to say goodbye ahead of Lady Danbury’s travels. And we’ll confess, we may have shed a tear or two at her departure. But does this mean Lady Danbury is leaving Bridgerton?
At the start of season four Lady Danbury informed the Queen of her intention to leave England and travel to her ancestral home for the first time since she was four years old. She asked the Queen’s permission to do so and was told no for the majority of the episodes.
It wasn’t until episode six ‘The Passing Winter’ that the Queen gave Lady Danbury permission to leave her and go on her travels. Following an emotional audience with Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan) about the future of Lady Whistledown, the Queen had a change of heart and in a wordless but emotional interaction, gave Lady Danbury a nod of her head to indicate it was ok for her to leave.

The pair then had a tearful goodbye during the season finale and Lady Danbury was then seen packing up her home and getting ready to travel overseas. So is this the last we’ve seen of her?
Is Lady Danbury leaving Bridgerton?
In short, no. Bridgerton’s showrunner Jessica Brownell revealed while speaking to The Wrap, Lady Danbury would be returning next season.
“She [Lady Danbury] is a big part of Season 5, when she does eventually come back,” Brownell explained to the publication.
From this it sounds like maybe we can’t expect to see Lady Danbury right from the start of the new season, but thankfully we will see her at least during some part of the season.

As for why her desire to travel was a plot for season four? Well Brownell explained they wanted to “shake up” the dynamic of the series, and examine the power imbalance between Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte.
“Now that Danbury and the Queen have been through their conflict this season, I think going forward, the Queen is going to be able to see Danbury much more as a peer,” Brownell explained. “It allows us to put Alice in sort of the service lady in waiting role in storylines, and allow Danbury to just be an actual friend to the Queen.”
We can’t wait to see this play out next season.
