The fly tipping was called out in a post on social media, with an anonymous user asking how they can involve the council.
The post, which included several pictures of the fly tipping, also said: “This is becoming a joke!
“Totally unacceptable.
“I have lived here a long time and it’s never been like this.”
The images showed rubbish which had been left in the alleyway, including a mattress, chairs, a sofa, and wooden pallets.
The image also showed a large amount of general waste which had been left, and bin bags filled with unidentifiable items.
Cllr Elaine Taylor, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “It is completely unacceptable to see rubbish dumped illegally in our communities. Leaving household or commercial waste where it doesn’t belong is illegal, and we will not tolerate it.
“Everyone has a duty to dispose of their waste properly. When people ignore that responsibility, it puts pressure on public services and affects the quality of life for everyone.
“Alongside enforcement, we are also working closely with residents to promote pride in our borough. Our recently relaunched Don’t Trash Oldham campaign – including our new ‘Clean Alleyway of the Month’ – highlights the amazing work residents are doing to keep their communities clean and tidy, supported by our enforcement teams.
“We will be visiting the area to remind residents how they can report fly‑tipping and to encourage them to share information with us.
“We urge residents to do the right thing, take pride in where they live, and report any fly‑tipping so we can take action by visiting www.oldham.gov.uk/Reportflytippingtous.”
The rubbish in the pictures was left beyond the gates to the alleyway, which were placed there by the council in order to prevent fly tipping.
The residents whose properties are affected by the alleygates are given keys to keep them locked, meaning people should not be able to open them or leave rubbish behind there.
However, in the images and when The Oldham Times went to the street, the gates were unlocked and open.
