Hull City have moved to extend Regan Slater’s contract by a further 12 months as they look to hold talks over a longer-term deal at the MKM Stadium.

Slater‘s existing deal was due to end this summer, but the club held an option to extend, and they’ve taken that, meaning his contract now runs until next summer.

The 26-year-old has been a pivotal figure at the MKM Stadium this season, playing 35 times in the Championship and becoming one of Sergej Jakirovic’s go-to performers.

Sporting director Jared Dublin had told Hull Live last month that discussions were ongoing with Slater and his representatives over a longer-term deal in East Yorkshire, and it’s expected those talks will continue in the coming weeks.

Boss Jakirovic had also stressed his desire to see an agreement struck with a player he values highly, and activating his option is the first step in making that happen.

Slater’s former club, Sheffield United, who City paid £50,000 to sign him permanently in January 2022, have been keeping tabs on his progress in recent weeks, along with other Championship rivals.

The dynamic midfielder has notched up an impressive 221 appearances for City, having hit the double-hundred milestone earlier this season.

Slater joins John Egan and Lewie Coyle in seeing their deals extended in recent weeks, meaning the Tigers have none of their own players out of contract this summer, which is another important step in creating some level of stability in the playing squad.
