Hull FC forward Matty Laidlaw will look to find game time in the Championship, after joining the competition on a month’s loan.

Laidlaw, who has 23 Super League appearances to his name, debuted for the Black and Whites in 2022, and has also spent time on loan at Newcastle Thunder, Keighley Cougars and Doncaster.

The 22-year-old was named in FC’s 21-man squad to take on Wakefield Trinity tonight [Thursday], but he will not feature for John Cartwright this week, and will instead join the second tier.

Laidlaw has joined Hunslet RLFC for the next four weeks, as he looks to find senior minutes before returning to Super League action.

Hull FC man makes short-term Championship switch

Able to play in both the front row and at loose forward, Laidlaw’s senior career has seen him primarily feature off the bench, and he will be looking to add both power and punch to the Parksiders in the coming month.

Hunslet currently sit 15th in the 20-team Championship, and have won only one of their first four league matches.

Former Super League veterans Lee Gaskell and Eddie Battye form part of the squad which is led by former Hull KR man Kyle Trout.

Laidlaw will be available for selection as early as this week, when the club take on Widnes Vikings, and he will also have a chance to take on Barrow, Oldham and Keighley during his time at the club.
