“Despite Kerry’s plan to throw everyone off the scent by mercilessly mocking her lover in public, nosy Nicola is on the case,” our Emmerdale insider explains.

“Kerry and Jai haven’t exactly been discreet about their attraction, so it’s no wonder that someone has caught on. We’re just surprised it took this long…”

Later, Nicola continues to harbour suspicions about Jai and Kerry’s closeness as her insatiable appetite for scandal grows…

“Working in the café, Nicola always has her ear out for the latest gossip – and since she’s Laurel’s best mate, she makes sure to keep an eye on Jai,” our source continues.

“If Nicola decides to blab, Caleb could seriously reconsider keeping the passionate pair on the payroll.”

Will Nicola be the one to expose Jai and Kerry’s risky rendezvous, potentially putting both of their jobs at risk?

Jai and Kerry’s romantic chemistry around the workplace began towards the end of last year.

However, just when it seemed that the pair might become a proper couple, Kerry complicated matters by marrying Eric Pollard. She quickly confided in horrified Jacob Gallagher and Sarah Sugden that this was all a financial scam to protect Eric’s savings.

Speaking after the wedding twist aired, Laura Norton – who plays Kerry – told us: “That period of filming was the most fun I’ve had in ages, because obviously last year we did all of the limo stuff and I had to say goodbye to a few of the girls in the show that I loved. It was really bittersweet. Obviously it was an amazing piece of television, but this recent stuff was just great to get back to ‘old school Kerry’.

“Now Kerry is partnered with Eric and it’s like a duo that you shouldn’t put together, but for some reason it just works. They are in a situation that is so ridiculous, it’s all so incredibly funny. So I’ve loved it for several different reasons.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
