Ruth Jones’s new BBC period drama The Other Bennet Sister has confirmed a release date – and fans won’t have long to wait at all. Additionally, a trailer has also launched for the upcoming series.
The show has been called “true to the spirit of Pride and Prejudice”, and looks at things from the perspective of Mary Bennet, the middle sister in Jane Austen’s classic novel.
The BBC has now confirmed that the 10-part series will premiere on Sunday, 15 March at 8pm on BBC One, with the first five episodes launching on BBC iPlayer that day at 6am. A double bill will air weekly, with the remaining five episodes hitting the streamer on 29 March. Check out the first trailer above.

Starring Bridgerton’s Ella Bruccoleri as the central character, the story is adapted from the Janice Hadlow novel and starts at the Bennet home of Longbourn as Mary “embarks on a very different path” to her sisters, who “pursue romance and social triumph”.
“Leaving Longbourn behind, she travels to London to live with her aunt and uncle, Mr and Mrs Gardiner, in their elegant home on Gracechurch Street,” the synopsis adds. “There, Mary begins a journey of self-discovery, stepping out of the shadows and into her own story.”
Jones plays mother Mrs Bennet, with Saltburn’s Richard E Grant as Mr Bennet. Also on board are Game of Thrones’ Indira Varma, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Richard Coyle, The Girlfriend’s Laurie Davidson and The Wheel of Time’s Dónal Finn.
“Our story is set in a familiar and much-loved world, but we’re coming at it from a completely new angle,” co-writer Sarah Quintrell previously said. “Mary’s story is about coming of age when you’re the odd one out – how do you find your place in the world?

“As a young girl growing up in Croydon my world could not have been more different to Jane Austen’s – but there is a universality in her work that reaches across generations and class boundaries, and we cannot wait to bring the Bennet family to a new audience.
“The Other Bennet Sister is true to the spirit of Pride and Prejudice but I hope it will also surprise and delight fans both old and new.”
The series comes ahead of Netflix’s new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which is due later this year and features Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman.
The Other Bennet Sister will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, 15 March.
