Natalie Edmondson, from Ulverston, has been backing a petition by The Brain Tumour Charity that has been brought to the government’s website.
Natalie has a personal connection to the petition as her husband, ex-lorry driver Phil Edmondson, 39, with whom she has two young children, was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in July 2025.
The petition has now reached 100,000 signatures which means that it can now be considered for a full parliamentary debate.
Entitled ‘Invest in brain cancer and give rights – turn terminal into treatable’, the petition is calling on the government to ramp up research funding into brain cancer.
This is because research into brain cancer currently only gets one per cent of the national spend on cancer.
Asked about whether it was a proud moment to see her and her family’s tireless campaigning efforts pay off, Natalie gave a modest answer.
“Yes, it is,” she said. “But it is not just down to us, it is down to other people [campaigning for the petition across the country too].
“We are pleased, particularly with people’s support in our area. You can see that people have been signing the petition, and it is nice to see people are engaged, and friends and family have helped us.”
Natalie believes she is just one small cog in a nationwide machine campaigning for this petition to get support.
Those who have helped raise the petition’s profile include celebrities such as Piers Morgan and Davina McCall.
Natalie also said that there is still work to be done, and that although the petition reached its 100,000 milestone, the campaign is now focused on getting 120,000 signatures alongside moving on with the next steps.
These include lobbying MPs to push for lasting change – something Natalie has already been doing in south Cumbria with Tim Farron MP and Michelle Scrogham MP.
Asked about next steps, Natalie said: “The next week is still just to keep pushing [the petition] because we have got a few days left.
“And then, for me here, it is a case of asking friends, family, and people I know to get on to their MPs.”
She continued: “The more we can get MPs on board, the more likely there is of any potential change and action actually happening”.
