New South Wales Cup man Declan Casey has been floated to Super League clubs amid the current full-back injury crisis.
At least two Super League clubs are believed to be considering their options in the transfer market after losing their full-backs to season ending injuries. Castleford Tigers’ Ryan Carr has confirmed that his side are on the look out for a signing after Blake Taaffe’s blow, while Hull FC, who have lost Will Pryce, are likely to dip into the market, too, albeit with a number of positions to fill.
Both clubs are believed to have been offered the services of Ben Farr, as first reported by Love Rugby League. However, Serious About Rugby League understands that a new name has been put in front of Super League recruitment managers, with Casey being made an option.
The 26-year-old has spent time in the NRL and since making his debut with Canterbury Bulldogs in 2022, he has made seven appearances in the premier competition. Of those outings, six of them have come with the Bulldogs, while his latest NRL run out came in the colours of Wests Tigers back in 2024.
Casey has two first grade tries to his name, too, but he has spent much of his career playing in the New South Wales Cup.
Since his debut in 2020, he has made 80 outings in the reserve grade competition and that figure includes the 18 games he played for South Sydney Rabbitohs’ second string last season. He’s touched down 30 times at that level, too.
Casey notably is not a specialist full-back, but he is no stranger to the role with a portion of his senior outings coming in the position and he has played the role at least once at first grade level.
Indeed, he has spent the majority of his career at centre, but further appearances have come on the wing and at stand-off.
