St Helens and Wigan Warriors have sent out a combined nine players on loan with one player being an overseas prop forward.

With the RFL changing the rules around loans to accommodate for one-week loans, it’s seen more and more clubs willing to part with players without fear of stumbling into an injury crisis and being without their depth.

That’s seen a growing number of loan moves with Leeds Rhinos among the latest as they sent promising forward trio Ben Littlewood, Tom Nicholson-Watton and Presley Cassell out on loan to the Championship this week.

Now, St Helens have confirmed that they are sending five players to three separate clubs, whilst Salford RLFC have welcomed the return of four Wigan Warriors players.

Saints are going through injuries of their own at the moment but Paul Rowley told Serious About Rugby League earlier in the week that the club would help out the reformed Halifax Panthers if they could, and that is what they have done with one of their loanees.

St Helens send five out on loan as Wigan help Salford

Leon Cowen, who had previously signed a season-long loan deal with the Panthers, has now agreed another season-long deal with the reinstated club.

Alfie Sinclair has seen his loan at Swinton extended whilst exciting young Frenchman Luca Walsh has followed it, however, it’s St Helens’ loan to Salford that is perhaps most surprising.

Agnatius Paasi, an overseas forward with plenty of Super League experience, has been allowed to join Salford despite Saints’ injury issues in the pack, namely Matty Lees and Alex Walmsley. Harvey Braddish, a young Saints forward, has also joined Mike Grady’s squad for this week.

That Salford squad will also be bolstered by the addition of four Wigan Warriors players, some of whom have been on loan at the club earlier this season.

Forwards Lukas Mason and George O’Loughlin, the sons of Keith Mason and Sean O’Loughlin, have been sent on loan to Salford and they’ve been joined by Wigan’s off-season signing duo Dayon Sambou and Jonny Vaughan.

Championship clubs will announce their 21-man squads at noon today (Friday) with plenty of other Super League loanees expected to be named across the competition.

St.Helens players Agnatius Paasi, Leon Cowen, Alfie Sinclair, Luca Walsh, and Harvey Braddish have all gone out on loan from St.Helens R.F.C.

Best of luck to all our Saints! 😇
