Comedian Neil Delamere couldn’t resist having a pop at the Ibrox side as explained to a national audience.
Martin O’Neill
Comedian Neil Delamere revealed Rangers were the punchline to his gag about Snoop Dogg becoming an investor in Celtic.
The Irish stand-up admitted he riffed on the legendary rapper’s vow to get involved in the Premiership champions – before Snoop put his money into Swansea.
And Delamere’s quip came as Martin O’Neill took a front row seat at a black tie dinner event in Ireland.
Despite the comic’s one-liner, Rangers have received significant Stateside investment in the form of the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh plunging millions into the Ibrox side as they attempt to win the Premiership title in their first season since being taken over.
Delamere admitted his joke proved to be a hit while telling the story during his guest spot on Channel 4’s Countdown.
He said:, “I hosted the Ulster GAA all-star awards, a big deal, if you are brilliant at Gaelic sports, you were at that night, a black tie event. I noticed Martin O’Neill, ex-Ireland manager, he was brilliant craic.
“There was a story at the time that Snoop Dogg was going to buy into Celtic, did you see this story? Snoop Dogg would buy into Celtic, 50 Cent would buy Rangers. Not the rapper, 50 Cent would buy Rangers. At GAA, that’s an absolute winner.”
That line tickled Countdown host Colin Murray as Delamere revelled in recanting his tale from the awards.
Despite Snoop Dogg’s investment in Swansea, he’s kept a keen eye on his beloved Scottish team.

And he revealed his “big respect” for O’Neill after he returned to Celtic the first time in the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ acrimonious exit.
