The representatives of various Dhaka-based cricket clubs on Sunday requested the National Sports Council to investigate their allegations regarding the last elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Representatives, including former national team captain Tamim Iqbal, went to NSC to submit their formal complaints.

They submitted the complaints and requested an independent investigation to the secretary of the NSC.

‘We have been talking about the BCB elections on various platforms for quite a while now. So we have come today to complain formally,’ said Tamim, representing Gulshan Cricket Club.

‘The most surprising thing is 50 out of 76 clubs voiced their objection that the election was not held in the right way. ‘So that proves many things,’ he added.

‘Abahani and Mohammedan are the two biggest clubs in Bangladesh. They are also unanimous in this regard. So if the 50 clubs agree to this, I don’t have anything new to say,’ he further said.

The clubs have been raising their voices, citing the last BCB election and its elected president, Aminul Islam, as illegal. They have also been boycotting various domestic leagues.

That put the forthcoming Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League under serious uncertainty.

‘We want to return to the field. We have been away from cricket for a long time now. That’s why we [want to solve this] in a democratic way. We hope that will happen, as democracy has returned after many years,’ said Masuduzzaman, the chairman of the cricket committee of the Mohammedan.

Apart from Tamim and Masud, director of Mohammedan Lokman Hossain, former BCB director and councillor of Surjotorun Club Fahim Sinha, Rafiqul Islam of Indira Road, and Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh Boys were also present.
