Super League

Castleford Tigers boss Ryan Carr was again left frustrated with some controversial calls in this afternoon’s defeat to Leeds Rhinos.

Carr’s men lost out 22-4 at Headingley, with Fijian winger Mikaele Ravalawa scoring the club’s only try.

Leeds flyer Maika Sivo crossed for a hat-trick, leaving the Tigers with just one win from their first four league games.

Speaking to the press post-match, Carr was asked about two captain’s challenge decisions that occurred in the game, both of which going against the Tigers.

The boss was perplexed by both decisions, and in similar fashion to last week, was once again left questioning the reasons behind some key referee calls.

“Seriously, I feel sorry for my players. I really do. That’s all I can say.

“I’m not going to stop standing up for us. That’s my job as head coach and that’s my job as a leader, to stand up for us as a club and I’ll continue to do that.

“There was heaps I was… Look, I won’t say any words about it.”

Castleford Tigers boss reveals half-time message in Leeds Rhinos defeat

Despite trailing 10-4 at half-time, Carr was more than confident that his side could get something from the contest, however that hope would prove not to be the case.

The boss was in firm belief at the break that a result could have been on the cards, with the Tigers showing some promising signs in the first half.

“I felt like we were going to win the game, for sure,” Carr said when asked what his half-time message was. “We came here to win the game.

“That was our mentality, that was our belief. We can’t ever not expect that feeling of thinking we’re going to win. We were confident in how we could play against them.

“I thought we defended the best we’ve defended as a group since we started the journey together this year. I know the scoreboard doesn’t reflect that, but I think we took a lot of massive steps forward in how we defend.”

The Tigers will play St Helens next week in the Challenge Cup, as Ryan Carr gets his second taste of the knockout competition this season following the round three victory over Doncaster.
