Good Morning Britain was cut short today (March 9) as ITN studios had to be evacuated. Susanna Reid and Ed Balls fronted Monday’s edition of the ITV news programme.
Today marked the start of a new schedule as Good Morning Britain was set to be be broadcast until 10am. The longer episode replaced Lorraine Kelly’s chat show, which is now off the air for the next seven weeks as part of ITV’s new schedule. However, Susanna interrupted the traditional running of the broadcast to tell viewers she could hear an alarm sounding in her ear.
ITV cut to an ad break, which brought an abrupt end to Good Morning Britain. When the ads ended, ITV returned to the This Morning studio, which was initially scheduled to start 20 minutes later.
Hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard appeared to be taken aback by their sudden start to the show. Cat asked: “They’re not coming back or they are coming back?”
Ben added: “What are we doing?” However, the This Morning credits then rolled which brought a start to the show at the earlier than expected time.
Good Morning Britain moved to ITN studios at the start of the year and This Morning is now filmed at a studio in Covent Garden. The two shows were previously housed in the same building in White City.

Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard started the broadcast of This Morning earlier than planned
After the technical hiccup, This Morning continued as planned. A Good Morning Britain spokesperson has issued a statement on the incident as they said: “Due to an unscheduled fire alarm at the Good Morning Britain studio this morning, our team had to leave the set temporarily.
“While they were able to re-enter the building shortly afterwards, the programme had to end earlier than planned. We apologise to viewers for the disruption, with thanks to the This Morning team for appearing on air 20 minutes ahead of schedule”.
