Police have issued a new statement following a fatal two-car crash on a main road in south Manchester.
The smash happened on Kingsway in Burnage at around 4.37am this morning (Monday, March 9). A man, aged in his 50s, sadly died in the incident.
In an updated statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the cars involved in the crash at the Green End Road junction were a Volvo S40 and a Volkswagen Golf. The man who sadly died as a result of his injuries was the driver of the Volvo.

The force spokesperson said ‘officers are committed to establishing the full circumstances of this incident’. Investigations are underway on the scene, with a large cordon remaining in place on Kingsway this afternoon.
Both sides of the road are shut with pictures showing two badly-damaged cars within the cordon. Police want to speak to any witnesses, or anyone with footage leading up to or of the crash.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal collision between two vehicles on Kingsway, Manchester. At around 4:37am on Monday 9 March, a collision occurred between a Volvo S40 and a Volkswagen Golf at the junction of Green End Road and Kingsway.

“The driver of the Volvo suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he unfortunately later died from his injuries. Officers are committed to establishing the full circumstances of this incident and are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
“They are keen to speak to anyone who may have any CCTV footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log number 290 of 09/03/26.
