Manchester United have spent the majority of the summer transfer window targeting a move for Bryan Mbeumo and yet he remains at Brentford.
United moved quickly to sign new attackers for Ruben Amorim following the club’s worst season in 51 years. Matheus Cunha was brought in for £62.5million from Wolves at the start of June and Mbeumo was then made the Reds’ number one target.
Now, with pre-season underway and the 2025/26 season approaching, United have had no luck with their pursuit of Mbeumo. Two bids have been turned down, the latest in excess of £60m, with Brentford understood to now be demanding closer to £70m.
The Manchester Evening News reported this week that there is still hope that the 25-year-old will join the club for the pre-season tour of the United States.
However, after watching their top targets move elsewhere, United remain in the market for a new striker. Liam Delap decided to join Chelsea after his £30million release clause was triggered and Viktor Gyokeres is closing in on a move to Arsenal.
Moise Kean, Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewis all have been linked with moves to Old Trafford. However, United are showing no signs of settling with Plan B or Plan C.
CaughtOffside have reported that United are preparing a ‘serious’ offer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman has been the subject of heavy interest this summer with Liverpool and Newcastle battling it out for his signature.

The report has claimed that United are keeping tabs on the situation and are exploring the possibility of presenting a ‘player-plus-cash’ package to bring Ekitike to Old Trafford. It’s understood that the Bundesliga outfit value the striker at £85m.
Newcastle are hoping to pair him with Alexander Isak and have had an opening bid of £65m rejected. They are expected to return with an improved offer but Liverpool have also made contact with Frankfurt.
Our sister title, Liverpool Echo, have reported on Thursday morning that the Premier League champions have now opened talks with Frankfurt over a move.
Ekitike scored 22 goals and registered 12 assists for Frankfurt last season after signing from Paris Saint-Germain. His heroics have made him one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe and United could pull off a massive coup in signing him.
