halifax panthers

Round Six of the Betfred Championship is complete, and the big news this week saw a coaching switch, as well as the return of Halifax Panthers.

The Panthers played their first game after revival. The club were placed into compulsory liquidation in February, but after a swift ownership change, they were allowed to continue with the rest of the season.

Fax hosted London Broncos at The Shay, and were beaten 42-4, with PNG hooker Finley Glare scoring twice, however the positive for Panthers fans will be seeing their team back on the field after a period of uncertainty.

Elsewhere, Barrow Raiders picked up an away win at Dewsbury Rams. Barrow have lost just once all season and currently sit third in the table.

Doncaster secured a home win over Goole Vikings. The away side would have wanted to winning performance to go into their Challenge Cup game against Warrington Wolves next week with the upmost confidence.

Sheffield Eagles kept their unbeaten run going with a 44-20 win over Rochdale . Both them and London are the only two sides to have not lot in the competition so far.

Batley Bulldogs and Workington Town picked up points against North Wales Crusaders and Salford RLFC respectively, whilst Whitehaven and Midlands played out a 20-20 draw.

Speaking of Whitehaven, they announced the coaching departure of Anthony Murray following last week’s win over Rochdale. Murray has now found a new club and has joined Swinton Lions as assistant coach.

Working with Paul Wood and Mickey Higham, the Lions were unable to get their first win with Murray in the setup, as they lost out to Newcastle Thunder 36-4.

Lastly, the Leeds Rhinos trio of Ben Littlewood, Presley Cassell and Tom Nicholson-Watton couldn’t help Hunslet to victory over Widnes Vikings, though Littlewood did manage to cross for a try in a 32-26 defeat.

Both Keighley and Oldham, who will feature in Challenge Cup action later this week, had bye rounds and did not play.
