New footage has emerged online to provide further clarity on the spat between Antoine Dupont and Ben White during the Six Nations clash at Murrayfield.

The French captain was slammed after he refused to shake his Scottish counterpart’s hand after France were stunned 50-40, ending their hopes of a Grand Slam.

Dupont had a rare, underwhelming performance as the ball was dislodged from his grasp by White, which led to Kyle Steyn’s try and he later threw a wildly forward pass behind his own try-line.

Throughout the game, White was seen goading his opposite number, and the French captain took umbrage with the Toulon star’s celebration, with the pair squaring up.

Dupont-White row

In the match’s aftermath, the official France Rugby X account shared a clip of the players shaking hands after the final whistle, with Dupont seen rejecting White’s outstretched hand.

This led to an outpour of criticism for the French skipper online, Scotland Rugby News Editor Gav Harper writing: “Poor from Dupont who was second best to Ben White today. Another outstanding performance from Scotland’s scrum-half.”

One fan added: “He’s got a petulant streak for sure. Can be a bad loser. Complained incessantly post 23 RWC exit.”

“‘Sledging’ is part of professional sport….has been for many, many years. I think Dupont has let himself down very badly actually,” another wrote.

However, another video has emerged online showing that Dupont did shake White’s hand soon after rejecting his initial advance.

The first video posted by France Rugby cut out once the France players had made their way down the tunnel, the Scots’ formed, but it was when the French returned the favour that the pair shook hands.

In the video, Dupont still did not look pleased with his opposite number as he continued to argue with him, but did not leave him hanging on this occasion.

With the incident now behind them, for the time being, the duo will be aiming to get their hands on the Six Nations trophy this weekend, with the two nations heading into the weekend’s actions with 16 league points apiece. France host England in Le Crunch while Scotland head to Dublin, where they also have a shot at a Triple Crown.

It is also theorised that the animosity extends to the Toulouse-Toulon rivalry, which will make the May 9 Top 14 fixture between the duo all the more spicy.
